Certifications and Special Training

Are certifications important? We think they are because certifications mean training. And when we receive specialized training, we are even more equipped to design and install products in a way that ensures the product will operate safely and efficiently.

National Fireplace Institute
The National Fireplace Institute® (NFI) is the professional certification division of the Hearth Patio and Barbecue Education Foundation (HPBEF), a 501(c)3 non-profit educational organization for the hearth industry. NFI's objective is to increase public safety by establishing meaningful credentials for professionals involved in planning and installing residential hearth appliance and venting systems.

Our NFI certifications Include:
  • NFI Certified Gas Specialist -
Considerable knowledge and expertise are called for in designing, installing, and servicing gas hearth systems, not only because of advances in technology, but also because of the nature of fuel gases. Training begins with the foundation for all work with gas hearth systems: gas characteristics and combustion basics. We look next at methods and requirements for fuel delivery and then at the fundamentals of gas piping systems.

  • NFI Certified Wood Specialist
The NFI Woodburning Certification signifies that a technician has passed a rigorous exam covering a wide variety of topics that pertain to the proper planning and installation of woodburning hearth appliances. Based on a detailed industry survey, known as a Job Analysis, an extensive list of vital knowledge statements and tasks was developed. This list is updated on a regular basis to ensure that the knowledge and tasks list keep up with ever changing products.

  • NFI Certified Pellet Specialist
Diversity in product design continues to characterize the pellet industry. The challenge of this manual is to provide the professional with an organized, useful overview of industry products and their working principles while recognizing that the many design variations and installation/service specifications are the responsibility of appliance and venting manufacturers. The fundamentals provided here are intended to broaden industry knowledge and to serve as the foundation for effective manufacturer education efforts.

  • NFI Certified Hearth Design Specialist
The Hearth Specialist is the person who guides the client through the process of determining exactly which hearth appliance is best for them and leading them through the sale, to the subsequent installation and into satisfied ownership of the hearth system.
